Young hospital friends embark on secret exploits in David Walliams’ festive drama.
Adaptations of David Walliams’ children’s books have become festive fixtures, with six of them making the Christmas TV schedules in the last seven years.
This year, the versatile author, actor and Britain’s Got Talent judge makes it a magnificent seven with BBC1’s The Midnight Gang.
Set in a hospital, the story follows schoolboy Tom (Oliver Zetterström) as he finds out about the adventures the other young patients have when the lights go out. Haydn Gwynne stars as the child-hating matron, Amit Shah is a nervous doctor, and Alan Davies plays the scary porter.
We caught up with Walliams, who also plays Tom’s headmaster, to find out just what’s in store…
What’s The Midnight Gang about?
The story follows schoolboy Tom, who is hit on the head by a cricket ball and ends up in hospital. He meets these kids who don’t want to include him in their secret plans. It turns out they are the Midnight Gang, working together to make their dreams come true at night.
