Guillermo Zapata is living proof of the American Dream. A native of Buenos Aires and often dubbed the “George Clooney of Argentina,” Zapata moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to pursue his acting career. “I came here just to see the city, and I fell in love with everything—the people, the weather, the energy. But vacation was over, and then it was my call to say, ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ And I decided to stay and start a new life.”
What many don’t know is that Zapata and his wife, Nathalie, are the “hidden” power couple behind SUR—the 8,000-square-foot ultra-sexy restaurant and lounge situated on the bustling corner of Robertson Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. That’s because Bravo’s hit shows The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules put a spotlight on its newest co-owners, Lisa Vanderpump and husband, Ken Todd, who joined forces with the Zapatas in 2005. But Zapata and his wife are perfectly content being behind the scenes. Nathalie explains, “I like to keep Guillermo as a father, as a husband [and] as an entrepreneur.”
