Do you ever feel like you didn’t get the memo?
It started for me when I was still in single figures. My parents bought a new house and, sadly, my school life and friends were collateral damage. I was moved from the soft bosom of everything I had known for as far back as I could remember, to an alien neighbourhood and an educational establishment where I was totally surrounded by strangers.
My new school was old-fashioned and conservative. Each day, songs were sung and prayers were said and everyone knew every single word. I sat praying I was invisible whilst affecting a blah, blah, blah movement with my mouth, hoping the eagle-eyed teachers would be oblivious to my lack of knowledge.

Tashas - A New Cafe Concept Opens in Al Bateen
What do you get if you mix South African cuisine with Arabic and Mediterranean dishes, influences and décor? Tashas, a new high-end café in Al Bateen. Originally launched 12 years ago by South African Natasha Sideris, the Abu Dhabi branch is the first in the capital and will likely ruffle a few feathers among the city’s café scene, because Tashas is a cut above most we’ve visited in the capital.
