In a pop-up Scandinavian lodge complete with a faux fireplace and digital backdrop of lush Nordic landscapes, TUMI presented its latest collection of premium travel, business and lifestyle accessories for Fall/ Winter 2018.
Acne Studios, hygge and Ikea – there seems to be an enduring obsession with Scandinavian style and the Nordic way of life. When hectic schedules and constant activity are the norm, Scandinavian design characteristics of simplicity, minimalism and functionality can be a welcome respite.
For TUMI’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection, the brand weaves in these Scandinavian influences, which are very much rooted in nature and the tradition of craft, in the form of prints and tonal colours inspired by the landscape and elements of the region. Across the Travel, Men’s and Women’s collections, there’s a bag for everyone. Jetsetters have a wide range of suitcases to choose from, with the newest being the Latitude collection – the brand’s lightest and most durable luggage yet. For anyone else on the go, backpacks and smaller bags are aplenty.
At the TUMI Scandinavian Lodge pop-up in Kuala Lumpur, Adam Hershman, general manager for greater China and AsiaPacific distribution and travel retail, took us through the brand’s new offerings and shares what he hopes to achieve for TUMI in the future.
What is the design focus for the ladies’ collection this season?
For this season, it’s definitely Scandinavia. If you look at the colour palette and the prints in particular, they’re very much inspired by the landscape and elements of Scandinavia. It’s common for our design team to do that every season; to take elements of different inspirations from different parts of the world and bring them to life in the prints and expressions for the season.
