“The only easy day was yesterday.” This legendary Navy SEAL mantra was compounded into us during the recent Luminox Jungle Survival Course on Bintan Island as we divided into teams, and were tasked with intense physical challenges such as banging out push-ups, running laps in the scorching tropical heat and even navigating the murky waters of a mangrove on a kayak. Don’t be fooled into thinking it was all brawn and muscles though; as part of the programme, we were assigned Luminox watches, which we could use to time hack and for count down purposes, thanks to the rotating bezels.
