The best arts organisations are those that actively cultivate audiences. In Mumbai, one organisation that has been particularly successful in building a society of followers in recent years is Junoon (Junoontheatre.org) founded by Sanjna Kapoor and Sameera Iyengar. This five-year-old enterprise has done this most notably with Mumbai Local, a series of talks where the audience can engage with well-known artists in bookstores and museum courtyards. But its most recent offering harks back to the French salon culture that thrived from the late 16th to early 18th centuries.
