Wake your pond for spring

IF your pond is one of the lucky ones that’s bubbling over with frogspawn, tadpoles and adult frogs, then lucky you! We are still waiting for amphibious visitors to show an interest in our pond (which we only put in last year, so I must be patient), but there is still plenty to do.

Start by removing any plant debris, such as dead leaves, that has fallen or been blown into the pond. Do this sooner rather than later, before the water warms up enough to prompt decomposition. Take care when removing debris if you have tadpoles or spawn in the pond, as they should be disturbed as little as possible.
