GROWING ONLINE AND ON THE PLOT

This month we feature the winner of My Website/Blog category of our 2019 competition, Rachel Wilkinson from Manchester
GROWING ONLINE AND ON THE PLOT

The winner of this category, RachelWilkinson, won with her growingblog called Don’t Crop Me Now. Rachel has been growing veg for 15 years and works a large area covering 625m2 comprising one full allotment and three half plots. One of these has just been taken on this year. Rachel has help from her husband, Anthony, and from friends and wider family.

Why do you enjoy growing your own?

I like the connection with food and the environment. In addition, I enjoy the creative side and spending time outdoors. It is nice to have a hobby and it means we spend quality time together as a couple. Allotments provide community support, friendship and access to knowledge sharing.

Why did you start a blog?

Initially, we started blogging to share our allotment progress with friends and family. I also enjoy sharing my successes, failures and hints and tips with other gardeners. It is nice to try and demystify some of the elements of kitchen gardening. A worry about things being complicated can easily put off people who are motivated to grow their own! Don’t Crop Me Now covers a broad range of aspects including growing, cooking and making. This enables us to share our passion for sustainability alongside recipes and growing guides.

Do you try growing different things?
