Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.

Dr. Alex Keller
Movement Is Life

Movement is in many ways the essence of life. All beings require some degree of movement to survive and thrive, and yet modern humans are getting less and less of it. Our muscles need movement to stay strong and supple. Our bones need impact to stay sturdy and dense. Our circulatory systems need movement to circulate blood and lymph. Our digestive systems need movement in order to function properly. If we stop moving, our bodies begin to fall apart. Our metabolism slows, our muscles shrink, our digestion slows, our blood flow declines. These changes result in common symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, brain fog, constipation, weight gain, low energy and much more.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Qi is the life energy that animates living beings. From this perspective, the smooth flow of Qi is synonymous with life. A stagnation of Qi indicates or leads to pathology. By ensuring regular Qi flow via movement, diet, hydration, stress management and acupuncture (if necessary), traditional Chinese doctors over 3,000 years ago developed a holistic perspective of health that helped their patients cure and prevent disease. Even today, the basis of Chinese medicine is maintaining Qi flow, thereby maintaining energetic movement.
