As Olivia Newton-John deals with her new cancer diagnosis, this month's major fundraising events in her name will go ahead as planned in Australia. Here, Good Heafth shares insights from those close to Olivia as she makes her way back to wellness
The world fell in love with Olivia Newtown-John in 1978 when she played Sandy in the smash hit film Grease. Ever since we’ve followed her journey – as a singer, mother and wife, and as an advocate for breast cancer awareness after battling the disease herself 15 years ago.
In May this year Olivia cancelled her concert tour dates, announcing that the cancer had returned. She’d been suffering sciatica, a painful back condition, but discovered that it was breast cancer which had metastasised to her spine.
Here, Olivia’s family and friends tell of the amazing support she’s receiving from all over the world.
She's healing in her own way
Olivia was first treated for breast cancer in 1992, and until recently had been clear of the disease. Her recent treatment, she explains, includes natural wellness therapies along with a short course of photon radiation therapy.
“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” she says.
HER POSITIVITY
Olivia is confident that she will be back on stage later this year, better than ever. “I look forward to returning to performing soon!” she says.
