HOW TO MAKE A BARGELLO TOTE BAG

MATERIALS

1 metre (393/8 ") cotton canvas

14-count soluble canvas

Black DK yarn

Size 18 tapestry needle

Leather bag straps

Pinking shears

Add some personality to your humble cotton tote bags and learn about the wonders of soluble canvas with this project. Keep it simple using just one colourway, or add more shades and yarn textures to give your bag a more detailed look.

01 Pre-wash a piece of cotton canvas fabric. To avoid creasing, remove the fabric from the machine and dry flat.

02 Once dry, lay a towel on an ironing board and place the canvas on top. Set the iron to the cotton setting, then use a spray water bottle to mist the fabric in sections. Iron both sides of the canvas to steam it dry.

03 Once the fabric is crease-free, cut it to 38 x 84cm (15 x 33").
