An authentic Texan.

John David Kent

John David Kent is by far one of the most down to earth and relatable Americana-country artists in Texas. His inspiring, yet simple philosophy on life combined with his ambition to do what brings him joy is something we should all look to instilling in our lives. Mostly, however, Kent is keen on keeping things authentic, and he does that with the one thing that has driven humankind since the beginning of time: love. a love for music, a love for people, and a love for who he is.

Born in Greenville, Texas, Kent was raised by a musical family. His love for music was ingrained in him; he was born with it. “It’s just always been there,” Kent explains. He reminisces, “Both parents are musical. There were always musical instruments - always.” He recalls large vinyl collections, as well. at four-years-old Kent received his first drum set, and by five a “real, big drum set.” It was his primary instrument for a while, and he was a natural at playing it.

By 10-years-old, Kent would play with his father’s 50s and 60s cover band, and by 11 he was the house drummer. at the age of 14, Kent and his good friend Ben formed “Radish,” a band that would land Kent and his buddy their first top-40 single in Europe. In 1996, he signed with Mercury Records and his solo career began.
