The Wonder Of Self Love
Cosmopolitan Sri Lanka|October 2018

Hailing from bishops college and currently pursuing her undergrad degree in psychology, Amaya Suriyapperuma rose to fame just over a year ago at ASUS LankaComic Con 2017. She dressed up as the infamous dc comics heroine wonder woman and was subjected to ludicrous cyberbullying and social media harassment. Little did she know that it would be this unfortunate turn of events that would lead her to become the confident, bubbly young woman shes grown into today!

Q WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE SUPERHERO?

A/ My all-time favourite superhero would have to be Superman. I think it boils down to the simplicity and originality behind his character. However, when I watched Wonder Woman made by Patty Jenkins, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the character. Those Amazon women gave me goosebumps throughout the movie! I felt like I could relate to so much about Wonder Woman’s character. The way she believed in the goodness of all but ultimately having to come to terms with the harsh reality that there will always be the good and the bad is something that I, too, have had to learn about the world we live in. As a child, whenever I watched these cartoons I always wondered why the woman was always portrayed as a damsel in distress. Superman would always have to come to her rescue. Why couldn’t she fly on her own? This is when I fell in love with Wonder Woman and this is when I decided to cosplay her at the Comic Con event.

Q HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN THE CYBER-BULLYING BEGAN?
