Balipara Foundation has been hosting Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum for many years. Unlike many other conservation forums, the Naturenomics™ Forum is not limited to the conference rooms. ‘The idea is to bring people together and compliment efforts being made in different fields, while exchanging ideas to come at innovative solutions to overcome the loss of forest cover and its habitants,’ stated Robin Eastment, Field Executive, during the press meet before the event.
This year, like previous years, conservationists, change-makers and other stakeholders working towards the betterment of the planet were invited to share their ideas, and also encourage people in the audience, young and old, about what needs to be done and how every single person can make a substantial difference.
Nature as an Asset
Held at Hotel Palacio, Guwahati, the forum was inaugurated by Prabir Banerjea and Karishma Ahmed, of Balipara Foundation. Ambassador Chandrasekhar Dasgupta, Prime Minister’s Council for Climate Change, India, opened the first session ‘Setting the Tone: National and Global Strategies for the SDGs’, and spoke about the need to integrate sustainable development goals (SDG) into national policies, plans and strategies, and regularize varied dimensions of sustainable development in the country.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
