BMW Golf Cup International 2017 kicks-off in style at The Mines Resort & Golf Club.
Celebrating its 11th staging, the first Qualifying Leg of the BMW Golf Cup International 2017 (BMWGCI) treated discerning owners of BMW cars to a VVIP round of golf on July 12.
Staged at the Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed The Mines Resort & Golf Club that placed 8th on Golf Digest Malaysia’s Top 10 ranking, a total number of 58 players were in the field of Qualifying Leg 1, seeking to qualify for the National Final and possibly, a chance to play in the World Final.
Eventually, the champion of the Men’s ‘A’ category was 11-handicapper Lee Swee Onn who signed for a Nett score of 68. Playing the game for the past 19 years, Lee won by two shots from 1st runner-up Loh Soon Wah (10) who beat Ong Lian Man (12) on an identical score of 71 on count back.
“I am very happy and found that the event was above average and well-organized,” said Lee, 44, who was playing in his first BMWGCI event. “I am not really familiar with this course as this was only my second game here.”

What's Next For Carson Palmer?
Carson Palmer is an old football player in the prime of his golf life. The 2002 Heisman Trophy winner, now 37, recently took a month to decide if his body could survive another NFL season at quarterback. The answer, to the relief of Arizona Cardinals fans, was yes, and so Palmer’s dream of playing golf every day will wait a little longer. “Some guys wonder if they’ll get bored with golf in retirement, but I don’t envision ever having that problem,” says Palmer, who is “always up for 36 in a heartbeat” when being a dad to two young kids allows it.
