Jojo Struys Opens Up to Poon Li-Wei About Her Passion for Wellness and How It Empowers Her.
I first met Jojo well over a year ago, in Langkawi, during one of her wellness retreats. Fairly certain that my name and face wouldn’t ring a bell, imagine my surprise and delight when she gushes, “We’ve connected before, haven’t we?” But that’s just the sort of person she is – an effusive soul who radiates nothing but warmth and genuineness – almost like that friend who never forgets to send a thoughtful message every birthday. Though she looks as if she hasn’t aged a day, in truth, much has changed for her in the past year – marked especially by the opening of OhanaJo Studio, her own yoga space. And as the soothing lilt of her voice takes us across conversations, from wellness to love, it soon becomes apparent that a wealth of emotional depth lurks beneath the surface of Jojo Struys. She is a woman with the uncanny ability of putting life into wise perspective.
A HECTIC TIME
To give context to the situation, she takes me back to 2006, when she started a production house – Kyanite TV – with her then-boyfriend and now-husband, Michael Lim. The decision was fuelled by her drive for tackling challenges that came from producing her own ideas and a myriad of content – after stints in modelling, acting, writing, and TV hosting. She reminisces, fondly, “My husband and I grew our business from scratch. We had super humble beginnings and we produced a diversity of content, from travel to food to reality shows.
