LG’s C1 OLED 4K TV brings OLED goodness for all

In what has become an annual occurrence, LG has sent me their new C1 OLED 4K TV, exactly a year after they asked me to review the CX OLED 4K TV, the 2020 model that the C1 will eventually replace. The C1 is LG’s mainstream 2021 OLED TV flagship model, sitting just below the G1 ‘Gallery’ series and above the more affordable, but less capable B1 and A1.

While LG’s delivery team offered to install this large TV for me, I reckon that’s part of the review experience, though as LG sent me the 65-inch model, it needed two people to set it up, primarily to install its heavy base unit, then carry it to my TV console. Like its predecessor, the C1 has a very sleek screen component, with all electronics placed at the back in a module that extends the width of the television, and about half the height and 55.3mm thick. As with the CX, the module also contains downward-firing speakers, which is why there’s a curved plate attached to the base unit - to ‘bounce’ the sound forward, and this is pretty ok, but like its predecessors, bass reproduction is not remarkable, which is why LG also sent me the SP8YA soundbar for this review.
