Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are officially engaged after he popped the question in Italy, and rumours are swirling that the couple could have already said ‘I do’ in secret during the trip!

“Beatrice secretly got engaged in Italy and went to Misha Nonoo’s wedding near Rome. There are even rumours Bea and Edoardo may have got married secretly there as they love the country so much,” our royal insider tells.

“There will be a lavish party in England. But a secret wedding in Italy was a great idea.”

The palace announced the happy engagement news last Thursday, with a special note from the couple: “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married! We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness!”

Beatrice and Edo knew each other through their families for a number of years before becoming romantically involved. Despite having only stepped out at a few events together, the pair have appeared inseparable since their relationship went public a year ago.

The hugely anticipated announcement comes after weeks of growing speculation that the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson was preparing to take the next step in her relationship with the 34-year-old property tycoon.
