We're crazy for crazy CHRISTMAS'

For more than three decades, Lauraine and Peter Overton have poured their hearts into bringing joy to the families of North West Sydney.

The couple live on Mallee Street in Quakers Hill.

Every year, they transform their home and garden into a dazzling Yuletide display, with thousands of lights, decorations, a snow machine and even Santa's workshop.

"The crowds have built over the last 20 years," Lauraine, 73, tells New Idea.

Lauraine and Peter, 80, started the display in 1992 after becoming inspired by a lack of Christmas decorations in the shops.

Peter built a wooden sleigh with his late neighbour and hoisted it to the roof.

He's been building the displays ever since.

When the countdown to Christmas begins, the Overtons love sitting out on their front lawn every night to watch people enjoy their decorations.

Over the decades they've witnessed marriage proposals, heartbreak and moments of childhood magic. They've even got the local fire brigade involved to deliver gifts from Santa.

"That's what makes it so special - the people that come and talk to us," Lauraine says with a smile.
