Harry & Meghan Why They Really Started A War With The Royal Family

The Sussexes have walked away from the crown, but what pushed them over the edge?

After months of speculation, last week Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sent shockwaves through the palace when they officially announced their split from the royal family.

Now, royal insiders reveal exclusively to New Idea how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex blindsided their family and the real reason they’ve chosen to walk away.

“Harry and Meghan have made an extraordinary statement of intent and it’s quite obvious they have gone rogue and didn’t consult the Queen or any other members of the royal family,” royal expert Phil Dampier reveals.

In the lengthy post on their Instagram account, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated that they “intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.” The royals confirmed they plan to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America, and the controversial decision was made “after many months of reflection and internal discussions”.

However, it appears no-one was consulted, as a statement released by Buckingham Palace shortly after indicated all family members were kept in the dark about Harry and Meghan’s decision to essentially quit the royal family.

“Decisions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through,” the statement read.

“The fact that the palace put out a statement saying things were ‘complicated’ and discussions were at an early stage shows courtiers have been taken by surprise and there is a major rift,” says Phil.

“I’m sure the Queen, Prince Charles and William will feel Harry has not thought this through. She is very fond of Harry and I think she will feel very let down by this.”
