And last week the pair did nothing to extinguish persistent hopes of a romance, appearing very cosy at the 20-year anniversary party for the Oscar-winning film.

Kate and Leo cuddled affectionately and spent most of the night locked in deep conversation, with one onlooker telling New Idea that the actor ‘only had eyes for Kate’.

‘Leo spent the whole night staring at Kate like she was the moon, the stars and the sun rolled into one,’ said an onlooker. ‘He was smitten, looking for any excuse to affectionately touch her and be close to her. They were speaking very close at one point, and to anyone seeing them for the first time you would think they seemed like a couple in love.
