Restoration often emerges from the unlikeliest of places. For Aaron & Amanda Crabb, it’s come in the form of planting and leading a church, as well as in the unexpected joy of welcoming a fourth child — not to mention recording a brand new album. In the three years since the release of their Dove-nominated Difference Media debut, Mercy, the couple has experienced tremendous change and immense growth. It’s something they readily acknowledge as part of God’s ultimate vision, and a direct catalyst for their much-anticipated new project, Restore.
“I think this was the perfect season for this album,” Amanda shares. “It was part of the plan.” The couple began preliminary work on this new batch of songs while they were living in San Antonio, leading worship at Cornerstone Church, founded by internationally-renowned pastor and best-selling author John Hagee.
However, the clear call to plant and pastor a church of their own — the burgeoning, aptly-named Restoring Hope Church in suburban Nashville — pushed new music to the back burner for a time.
The directive to preach was one Aaron wrestled with. After all, a musical gifting had been placed on his life at a very early age. He was singing as part of The Crabb Family in his teens. The revered Southern Gospel group went on to garner more than 10 Dove Awards and three Grammy ® Award nominations during their groundbreaking tenure.
Together, Aaron & Amanda have released four notable projects as a husband and wife team, including 2013’s Mercy, which garnered four Dove nominations and a Vocal Duo nod from the Inspirational Country Music Association ® . Mercy also produced two well-received mainstream Country singles: “I’m Learning” and “If I’m Guilty.”
With a heritage firmly rooted in music, gradually God began to birth a new desire in Aaron’s heart. “As I was praying, I saw a vision of what you see today. I saw myself preaching,” he says. “I knew what God was showing me — that I was going to minister through speaking and His Word — but I wanted to interpret it as, ‘Oh, that’s just me singing up on stage.’ In my head, I tried to make that happen.”
