BUGATTI W16 MISTRAL: THE ULTIMATE ROADSTER
Named after a cold, north-westerly wind that sweeps through southern France, the topless Bugatti W16 Mistral has the looks, and performance, to blow all its rivals away. After all, the entire production of 99 units has already been snapped up at a cool $7.16 million each despite the fact that the first car is projected to be ready only in 2024.
A show car of the Bugatti W16 Mistral roadster landed in Singapore, for a short preview as part of a world tour, on February 15 - the day after Valentine's Day. For the lucky few who had the opportunity to view it, it was love at first sight.
The car is a fitting swan song for the brand's iconic 8-litre W16 quad-turbo engine. While there are no official figures of the car's performance, you can be sure that the numbers will be stratospheric.
Bugatti's last roadster, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, set a world speed record of 408.8km/h in 2013 using the same W16 motor, but it had "only" 1200PS. The version powering the W16 Mistral has 1600PS, same as the one that propelled the Chiron Super Sport 300+ to a record-breaking speed of 490.5mph in 2019. There can only be one goal in mind: to become the fastest roadster in the world again.
Fans will instantly connect the W16 Mistral's front profile to the vertical layout seen on the Divo and La Voiture Noire. At the rear, the design team created a striking but more elegant iteration of Bolide's X-theme tail-light motif.
