The emergence of fast fashion has aggravated the negative impact, owing to its use of cheap, toxic textile dyes. Today, the fashion industry is the second largest polluter of clean water globally after agriculture, resulting in our landfills being dumped with unwanted clothes, and it keeps piling up.
Today, because of abundance number of brands and online retail platforms, fashion is more accessible to people far and wide. The need to remain in fashion apparently compels people to shop round the year, unlike the yesteryears when shopping was restricted to only occasions or during sale periods. But the emergence of fast fashion has aggravated the negative impact, owing to its use of cheap, toxic textile dyes. Today, the fashion industry is the second largest polluter of clean water globally after agriculture, and the trend has resulted in our landfills being dumped with unwanted clothes, and it keeps piling up. This calls for businesses to be more responsible and follow the trend of sustainable fashion.
