Russell Gordon grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan west of Detroit, Michigan. Russell was the oldest of 6 children raised by his single mother.

Russell remembers his mother having to work two jobs to take care of all his family. As the oldest kid, he had the responsibility of helping raise his siblings, which at times he felt were his children. Russell told Boss Mann magazine that, in retrospect, the fact that he had to mature faster than most helped his yearning for success. During Russell’s upbringing, Ypsilanti, MI, struggled with violence and drugs.

With an estimated population of 19,000 people, Ypsilanti, MI was not ideal for raising children, flooded with drugs and violence; Russell had no choice but to adapt to his environment. Growing up in the streets gave Russell a specific knowledge that would later come in handy with his business.

Due to life circumstances, Russell spent much time without his parents but found comfort in certain childhood friendships. At a young age, he met Tommy Ketsith, a person that took the time to develop his understanding of life, something he could not get from his absentee parents. As life went on, Russell and Tommy lost communication for several years. Life responsibilities like marriage and children took on a role in Russell’s life, but as soon as he felt he settled in, Russell started searching for his childhood friend. Russell eventually found his friend and reconnected.
