As a gynaecological oncologist at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Professor Woo Yin Ling doesn’t only tend to patients in advanced stages of cancer, she also heads the core immunology facility to conduct research – where her work can potentially advance the cancer treatment and care provided. “My interactions with patients produce invaluable local insight that helps me tailor effective preventative measures unique to Malaysians,” explains.

1. What’s the biggest misconception people have about your job?

I think what most people don’t realise is that I’ve got a very mundane job. A big chunk of it is dealing with emails and troubleshooting. When you see me dealing with difficult consults or giving a presentation – there’s a huge amount of preparation behind all of that.

2. What’s the one thing about your job that keeps you going?
