Kicking It Into High Gear

Cartier’s Drive de Cartier enters its second year with enhancements that bring greater maturity to the newborn line.

Cartier’s love affair with wristwatches began in 1888, in a time when pocket watches were the rage among gentlemen. Things began to take a turn when Louis Cartier foresaw the importance of the wristwatch in a man’s arsenal of attire. It was in 1904 when the Santos de Cartier came about and we too fell hopelessly in love. A long and glorious history for the brand emerged and with it came the watchmaking icons. All of them had unique elements such as the hands, the dial design, the crown and, perhaps, the most apparent of all, the shape of the case. These factors tied all the models together and yet each and every one of these watches was easily identifiable at first glance. A testament to the success of such creations is the ever-expanding fan base that they and the Maison hold throughout the last century. One can say, without fault, that, Cartier’s watches are truly timeless.

With that in mind, when Cartier introduces a new watch, we take heed. When the Maison deems it fit to bring forth a new case shape, we stand at even greater attention, cock our heads and pick up every single detail of this new arrival. There is no question as to why we do this every single time this has transpired, it heralded the birth of something great and something that will last through the ages. Our devotion is not blind. We have seen it happen before in the Santos, in the Tank and in the Tortue. And so, in 2016, we see it again, in the Drive de Cartier.

The applause has barely lessened when, now, in 2017, Cartier enhances the Drive de Cartier collection with additional muscle through the introductions of the Drive de Cartier Moon Phases and the Extra-Flat models.
