The voice behind inummerable melodious tracks, Jubin Nautiyal shares with us his inspiration on what made him choose music as his first love.

Coming from the background of a reality show and entering the Bollywood industry as a playback singer, how would you describe your entire journey?

I don’t consider myself from reality show background because I was a part of it for only two rounds and that was the first and the last time I participated in a reality show. It taught me a lot for sure and I understood that I need to work harder. Bollywood industry was the first thing that happened to me when I came to Bombay. I gave myself some time and I came here to enjoy music, get to know other musicians and understand how music is happening in India. I never thought that I would sing a dance track and the whole country would be grooving to it. I think I am still living one day at a time and just living in gratitude as to how everything panned out.

You began learning music at a very young age. What drew you towards music?

Well, I think if we go down to the root of it, there was a rich musical environment at my house. My parents used to listen to great rich musicians such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Nusrat Saab. I can’t imagine my life without music playing in the background whilst my mom cooks food for me. Other than music, I have tried a lot of things such as mixed martial arts, in which I received a black belt at the national level and trained quite religiously for seven years. I also participated in district and nation level rifle shooting. You could say I was always into athletics. I did an MBA and had a lot of other options. Having said that, when I would come back home at night and play guitar, it was the best time of the day for me. I felt the happiest. As I grew up, I realised that our purpose of life is to do what we love the most and enjoy while doing it.
