Miniature painting art of Udaipur is one of the unique and distinct art forms of India. The artists draw the religious manuscripts and illustrations of mythological epics. Miniature painting art used to be the royal art and confined to the kings of the time, resulted in less attention in the contemporary world of art which has to some extent lead it onto the verge of extinction.

Art of painting and drawing has emerged and taken into different forms and shapes since man learnt writing. Like many other arts, miniature painting art is also an ancient art form in India and the most notable traditions of miniature painting include Mughal, Rajput, Pahari and Deccani courts.

Recording history through artistic expressions has been a part of human nature, from the cave paintings of the Stone Age, depicting hunting and dancing scenes to digitally created prints in thousands of colours. Today, technology is making us immune to the marvelous skill of hands that create delicate beauty. Sometimes, we fail to appreciate the amount of hard work and focus that the artists have to put in and how much practice and concentration is required for continuance of medieval art forms like the miniature painting.

Miniature painting art of Udaipur is one of the finest and it contains all the other form of art in it. It takes care of minute details of the painting. Each part of the painting is extensively expressive and brilliantly vivid in its nature. The colours are clear and vibrant, injecting life in each section of the painting. (BOX)

Like other kingdoms of India, the royal Mewari kingdom of Udaipur also used to hire the finest artists of the state to draw the portraits of kings and their royal courts to put a strong impression of their highness. The miniature painting art of Udaipur saw the light out of the royal courts only after the kingship in India was over. But since then different traditions of the art has amalgamated.
