Mysterious radio waves from distant galaxies have been picked up by Brit astronomers.
They were detected during a study of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a “satellite galaxy” at the edge of the Milky Way some 158,000 light-years away.
Breakthrough Listen, a decade-long search for alien broadcasts, was studying Proxima Centauri – a star closest to the sun – when they detected the signal.
