It follows a backlash after Goldberg said the atrocity was not “about race.
She made the comment on an episode of The View during a discussion about a Tennessee school board's decision to ban the Pulitzer prize-winning graphic novel Maus, which is about the Holocaust.
She apologised but caused further offence while attempting to explain her remarks on a late-night show.
In a statement, Ms Godwin said: “Effective immediately I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks following her wrong and hurtful comments.
