The DMT opens first park of its kind in the Emirate, featuring around 2,000 local trees, high-quality sports facilities and natural habitat for flourishing flora and fauna
-
Sheikh Khalid Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, and Chairman of the Executive Committee, toured Al Fay Park, a unique and vibrant nature site featuring state-of-the-art sports facilities, located centrally in Reem Island.
During the tour, Sheikh Khalid was shown around key elements of the park, developed by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), to create a healthier, more liveable and sustainable public space for residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi.
The 27,500 m2 park has been transformed into lush greenery with approximately 2,000 local plants, shrubs and trees, including the Ghaf — UAE’s national tree — Date Palm, Acacia and Tamarix that have collectively helped generate an authentic, natural ecosystem for native birds. Meandering paths of stepping-stones allow visitors to stroll through the canopy of trees, while shaded seating areas provide ideal places to relax and contemplate nature.
What makes the park unique is the intricate landscape and planting design to sustain a forest-like environment, while creating a micro-climate that substantially reduces traffic noise, temperatures and sand infiltration.
