DEER ISLE—When Principal Dennis Duquette realized he couldn’t extinguish a small fire by himself at the Deer Isle-Stonington High School, a full panoply of local apparatus rushed to his rescue.
Thirteen trucks, fire rescue and the Memorial Ambulance Corps arrived from Stonington, Deer Isle, Brooksville, Brooklin, Blue Hill and Sedgwick late in the afternoon of June 4.
“The response by the fire departments was incredible,” said Duquette in a phone interview.
The call came in at 4:20 p.m., and about 30 first responders came to the scene, according to Deer Isle Fire Chief Brent Morey.
“That building is old,” said Morey. “It wouldn’t take much.”
