Delhi managed to pull out of a precarious situation on the opening day of their penultimate Ranji Trophy group A game against Gujarat when middle-order duo Himmat Singh and Kunwar Bidhuri put on a 134-run stand for sixth wicket.
While Himmat (56 runs off 153 balls) lost his scalp on the last ball of the day to Gujarat spinner Axar Patel, Bidhuri (78 not out off 133) carried his bat to the next day with 270 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets at the Arun Jaitley stadium on Tuesday.
Sent in to bat first by Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel, Delhi opted to put back Anuj Rawat to the opening slot with Hiten Dalal after Kunal Chandela being dropped from the line-up after flop show in Kolkata last week.
The move came to a cropper as wicket-keeper batsman Rawat (4 off 12) was trapped lbw on the third over of the day by left-arm pacer Roosh Kalaria.
