Last year couldn’t have gone much better for Tom Walker but like everyone else, he’s just having to make the best of 2020.

I'd Never Write A Song Just To Make Money

The Scots-born singer/songwriter’s debut album, What A Time To Be Alive, made him the biggest selling UK signed artist last year, with tracks like Leave A Light On and Just You And I turning the 28-year-old into a household name.

This year, he should have been touring the world and playing bigger slots at every festival going, but with the COVID-19 pandemic bringing the entire live music industry to a standstill, Tom has had to settle for writing a load of new songs at home and playing online shows for his legions of fans.

The first sign of that burst of creativity has just dropped, the brilliant new single Wait For You. It’s another slice of classic Tom Walker, deeply personal and observational, with a huge chorus that is crying out to be sung back at a stage by a huge crowd.

Tom said: “It was written about a good friend of mine who went through a traumatic experience years ago.

“It really upset him and his family, so it took a long time for him to get through it, but if you fast forward to now, he’s one of the nicest, most positive and life-affirming people you could ever be around.

“It’s remarkable to me that someone like that could have the resilience to

come through such a bad time in such an amazing way, so I found that really interesting.

“I had written it just before lockdown but the themes feel quite appropriate to it, as some people seem to be coping better than others. We ended up having to record it remotely, which was a strange experience.

“It worked really well in the end but it really reminded me of what we don’t have at the moment.
