The four accused in the gangrape and murder of a 27-year-old woman veterinarian, Disha, were shot dead by the police at Chatanpalli near Shadnagar, about 60 km from Hyderabad, in the early hours of Friday. The incident comes exactly a week after they were arrested.
According to the police, the shootout took place between 5.45 a.m. and 6.15 a.m. near the Chatanpalli underpass in Rangareddy district, where the charred body of the vet was found. The accused tried to flee when they were taken for a reconstruction of the crime scene.
The four killed are Mohammed Arif, 26, the lorry driver, Jollu Naveen, Jollu Shiva and Ch Chennakeshavulu, all 20 years old and from Narayanpet district. They allegedly attacked the police with stones and sticks, snatched two pistols from them and opened fire.
