Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD
Asian Photography|January 2022
In recent times Tamron has made the all-in-one ultrawide telephoto zoom lens market a world of their own honestly. They have some great lenses for the Canon and Nikon mount in similar focal ranges which we have reviewed as well and we’ve enjoyed using them. You can go onto our website or our YouTube channel to see those reviews as well. But in all our reviews I have always wondered and asked why isn’t Tamron making more lenses for the Sony and Fujifilm mounts? And looks like someone has been listening at Tamron and we now have the lenses for the Sony and Fujifilm cameras as well. Today we are reviewing the Sony E-mount lens and soon we will be reviewing the Fuji mount as well, so do stay tuned for that. The price of this ₹62,000 which is same for both the mounts and it is now available with a seasonal offer as well which you can check out on Tamron’s website as well. So we are very excited to review this and let’s see how it does.

Look, Body and Feel

In terms of look, body and design it is a very familiar-looking design that is very reminiscent of the Tamron lenses and having used many of them this just feels at home. It is a well-built lens and a very compact body, but the reason why you know it is a well-built lens isn’t only coz of the finish, also coz it does feel slightly meaty in the hand. It weighs 620 gms and also features the same 67mm filter diameter that we are now familiar with. It is weather resistant as well and will come with coating that will protect it from splashes, oil and so on.

In terms of operation, it is much better than some of the other Tamron lenses that I have used where I have been critical of the extender ring which in some cases have been either very tight or very loose. And you have the usual lock as well on the lens so that it doesn’t extend in cases when you aren’t using it. I like the overall feel of this lens when you turn it around and the sound it makes when it is completely extended. It’s nice and feels formidable.

Overall, in this department it does score high marks coz it does feel really good.

Quick Features

Let’s take a look at some of the noticeable features of this lens. Now some of them are very similar to the other lenses that they have already done for the Canon and Nikon mounts and you can understand the design ethos that they come from.
