Roll on the snow

There is something blissful about the silence of snow. A quiet you can hear all around, the noise of the world dulled by the dampening properties of the falling white flakes. The world now a palette of pale hues and diffused light; it’s wonderful to be out in.

Many find this weather calming, but as a wildlife photographer, it can be an anxious time. For many of us, since the closing stages of autumn, our attention has been on the weather. Refreshing, watching and waiting for that four-letter word to get mentioned. Mostly it’s in some clickbait story about how we are in for the worst snow in 40 years, that in almost all situations ends up being nothing more than half-an-inch that melts into a grey slush before you’ve got your shoes on. So real snow is certainly something to get excited about, unless, of course, you live in the north of Scotland where you’re spoilt every season…
