By the seaside

David tells us how he caught some top shots from his local coastline

I am a huge fan of seascapes and shooting at the coast. For me, nothing beats being up at sunrise at the coast and, as a landscape photographer, I’m forever checking the weather and tides as photography is never far from my mind. I love the vista images and the intimate shots, but as my passion is seascapes, being based in Nottinghamshire can sometimes make things difficult with its location not being right next to the sea… But I never let it bother me because if you want something enough you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Being heavily into seascapes I never leave home when heading to a shoot without a good set of filters. I use LEE 0.6 and 0.9 soft graduated neutral density filters to darken bright skies and balance the exposure in my seascapes. On top of that, I have LEE Little and Big Stoppers, to block out even more light and achieve those long exposures, which allow me to record motion in the water and clouds. I also use a LEE polarizing filter to cut through harsh glare on the surfaces of water.
