Using a projector for gaming might sound like a joke, but you’d be surprised how far beamers have come over the years. Sure, the contrast is unlikely to beat the deep blacks of an OLED TV, but the stuff that really matters for gaming – latency, portability and definition – have all seen major improvements.
The projectors of old couldn’t hold a candle to the gaming abilities of these modern illuminators, and it seems it’s no longer laughable to consider buying a projector instead of a TV for gaming. Besides, gaming isn’t the only thing these beamers bring to the table. There are plenty of other benefits to swapping your TV for a projector. Not only will you save space, you’ll be able to shift and store your home entertainment system much more easily. It’s also a smaller target for controller-hurling kids.
X1300I
BENQ £1,249
The best long-throw projector
The BenQ X1300I comes in at the top thanks, in no small part, to its impressive 8ms response time. With one of the swiftest refresh rates on the list, at 120Hz, this projector has everything it needs to deliver competitive big-screen gaming, without fear of it compromising your rank. It may not be as fast as the BenQ TK700STi, but there’s more to gaming than just speed.
