SYDNEY Sixers put a huge dent in Brisbane Heat’s push for the playoffs, rolling them over for 73 – the third-lowest score in Big Bash cricket.
The Sixers have very little to play for, their hopes of finishing in the top half of the table long gone having won just two from eight before this, but Sean Abbott was certainly a man on a mission.
Remarkable figures of 4-11 from the 25-year-old helped extinguish any hope the Heat had, which was already slim having seen both Chris Lynn and Joe Burns be forced to sit on the sidelines with injury.
Not a single maximum was struck in the Heat’s innings with Alex Ross top scoring with 15 while Nathan Lyon shone with 2-17. In contrast, the Sixers smashed four maximums as they chased down their target in ten overs, Daniel Hughes making 38 and Joe Denly an unbeaten 19.
