There's no place like home

Former NRL star, television personality and proud husband and father BEAU RYAN chats to NATARSHA BROWN about his tips for travelling with kids and his favourite Australian holiday destinations

While Beau Ryan may spend his working days travelling the world as host of Network 10’s The Amazing Race Australia – winning over audiences with the lovable larrikin personality that he has become famous for – when it comes to family holidays, he loves all things home-grown.

Beau was raised in Albion Park in the Shellharbour region of NSW; sun, sand and surf run in his blood, and days at the beach were the norm on childhood holidays.

“I have really fond memories of going away together as a family. We used to go to ForsterTuncurry and spend the days fishing and swimming at the beach. I loved it. As I got older we travelled to Terrigal a fair bit, which was awesome, and stayed at my aunt and uncle’s unit. We always head to the coast – our family was always happy near the ocean,” he says.

Now a proud husband and father of two, nine-year-old daughter Remi and three-year-old son Jesse, Beau has kept the classic Aussie beach break tradition going with his own family.

“My family likes nice weather, so we usually go north. Queensland is the gift that keeps on giving and I want to take my kids to Far North Queensland, although maybe in winter because the humidity is ridiculous. We also love Tweed Heads and Coolangatta – the temperature is beautiful, and the beaches are perfect. We got a houseboat for a day once and had one of the best trips of our lives.”
