Looking to portray an early Doncaster-built Class 56, Alex Carpenter describes how he modelled one of the Trainload Metals fleet in no less a form than the Cardiff depot’s notional flagship.
The chosen subject was a firm South Wales favourite in the form of No. 56044 Cardiff Canton, this being portrayed in its early 1990s Trainload Metals guise as I wanted to represent the loco in its better years before the general rundown of the fleet under Transrail and EWS took hold.

LNER puts remaining ‘91s' into warm store

Travellers-Fare with Hornby's Mk.1 Restaurant-Buffet car
Hornby expands its range of retooled ‘OO’ gauge Mk.1 coaches with a brand new tooling for the Diagram 24 Restaurant-Buffet car (RB) and the Diagram 33 refurbished version (RBR). It models the vehicles in both original form, finished in BR maroon and Southern Region green, together with the RBR refurbished coaches. They remained in frontline service well into the 1990s, including Cross-Country workings.
