As stress takes over modern lives, a preventive healthcare practice is no more a luxury, but a need of the hour, says Shruti Shukla
With increasing awareness and accessible amenities, modern India is emerging as a health-oriented nation. It is nurturing a generation of youngsters who are mindful of what they eat, their energy levels, and how much the environment is adding to their lives. Such vigilance has led many to realise that a good, healthy life is more than just a disease-free existence, and it is time to focus on wellness and health.
“Most of us don’t care about health until we have to because of a certain condition. We believe that until everything is going fine we don’t need to see a doctor or a specialist. And when we see someone else suffering from a disease, our mindset is that this will never happen to us,” says Harshvardhan Saraf, founder of Vedary—a Mumbai-based natural health programme, explaining why people are ignorant towards preventive healthcare.
While optimism is great, it is imperative we make efforts in the right direction to secure a hearty future.

WHAT IS PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE
Preventive healthcare is about incorporating wellness practices that maintain and promote health and well-being. It works like a protective cover against the health risks that our lifestyle, habits, and/or surroundings might be exposing us to.
Is it then about joining a yoga class and going for wellness retreats to meditate? Not necessarily. “It is a thoughtful combination of proper food and nourishment, braced with salubrious lifestyle modifications like an exercise routine, and consistent sleep time," opines Saraf.
