Meanwhile, William and Kate have steadfastly persevered with fulfilling their royal duties and have been so busy they haven’t been able to think about what they will be doing for Christmas.
“It’s so difficult – we are still trying to make plans,” William said last week. “It’s difficult to know what to do for the best.”
It is likely though, that they will spend Christmas at Anmer Hall or with the duchess’ parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, in Berkshire.
Their downsized celebrations may be a welcome relief for Kate, 38, who, despite spending a large chunk of the year in lockdown due to coronavirus restrictions, has had a busy schedule of online meetings and calls to support her chosen charities. She has devoted many hours to her Five Big Questions initiative, a survey about young children’s development, including hosting virtual forums and speaking personally to experts – all while caring for her three children, Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.
“It will do Kate good to have a quiet day with her immediate family,” says a palace insider. “She has really worked hard this year – not always seen by the public – and deserves some downtime.”
