Jumping in my boss’s van, I’d already had a rather rough morning.
As a fish delivery driver, it’s crucial that I get on the road as soon as possible so I can get to the depot in Grimsby to collect the product.
But this morning, I’d got a flat tyre before I could even get off the driveway!
Typical! It wasn’t great, but luckily, my boss arrived and gave me his van for the day.
‘Leave your van on the drive,’ he told me, handing me his keys.
‘You can use mine, and we’ll get it sorted when you get back.’
I nodded gratefully and jumped in his van, headed straight for Grimsby depot.
Blasting my pure cheesy pop on the radio, I hoped nothing else would go wrong.
But, after dropping off the last box of fish, the van’s battery went dead, just an hour away from home.
‘Not again!’ I cried, pulling on to the hard shoulder in a huff.
The van stalled and no matter how hard I tried, there was no bringing her back to life.
If I don't laugh, I'll cry, I thought, wishing the horrendous day would just end.
I wished I could just be tucked up safe and warm in my bed...
I was sick of listening to the radio, and with nothing else to keep me entertained, I waited for what felt like an eternity for the recovery truck to arrive.
Finally, I was back on the road and heading home into my girlfriend Charlotte’s arms.
