Is chivalry outdated?

YES

‘We are more than capable ourselves’

Lynsey Pollard is 42 and runs littleboxofbooks.co.uk. She lives in south London with her partner Neil, 41, and her children aged eight and three.

When I was growing up, my mum Allison was a great role model. She worked as a social worker and was always fiercely independent. She didn’t rely on my dad Ian. They were always kind and caring towards each other, but it worked both ways. They treated each other as equals.

So when I started dating, I expected to be treated equally to men. If a man offered to pay on a date, I’d politely accept, but I’d insist on paying on the second date. After all, women aren’t the weaker sex. We are more than capable of opening doors for ourselves! Chivalry is so outdated.
