Last Christmas, a newly single Brad Pitt spent the festive season miserable and alone, while his ex-wife Angelina Jolie and their six children celebrated together with lavish presents and a no-expense-spared skiing holiday in Colorado.

This year, however, the festive season will be a much happier affair for the actor, after the Maleficent star made a surprise turnaround and invited him to join her and the kids – Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – at their new home.

“Brad broke down in tears when Ange phoned to invite him over,” a well-placed insider tells us. “And even she was a little choked up. Brad said the call came totally out of the blue.”

The pair, whose September 2016 split left fans reeling, are still wrangling over the final custody arrangements, with Brad only allowed short, supervised visits.
