'I don't get this emotional often'

A World Cup victory brings unexpected tears, while winning debuts impress and a pair dance their way to a personal best

LOTTIE FRY and Becky Moody took the top two spots in the final World Cup leg of the Western European League.

“I had an amazing ride - it was such an incredible feeling,” said Lottie, who won on Glamourdale with 89.71%. “I remember entering the arena, but from that moment I don’t remember very much.

“Afterwards, I actually cried a few tears. I don’t get emotional often, but he was so amazing, it really got to me.”

Runner-up Becky Moody and Jagerbomb achieved a personal best score of 87.55%

“We have only done that freestyle three times - the first time was not so good, but it has got better and better as we've ridden it more,” said Becky.

Lottie is now qualified for the World Cup Final in Basel next month, but Becky finished outside the top nine in the Western European League, meaning others will need to not take up their spots for her to go.

West Wilts EC, Wilts

LEWIS ROBERTSONCARRIER made his competition debut with Jack XXVI, winning the prix st georges (PSG) with 71.91%.

“He’s an easy-going character, so I wasn’t worried about taking him to our first outing – and his first PSG,” said Lewis of the Lord Leatherdale gelding, who was previously competed by Darren Hicks and is owned by Gary Mudie.

“He’s been based with us to produce since June last year and, in the background, he has been helping Gary learn to ride,” added Lewis. “He’s a talented horse with an amazing brain. Hopefully, over the next year or two, he’ll be competitive at small tour.”

Vikki Pengilly nailed her debut with Naboe Noir H and notched up another win with her seasoned campaigner, Cynheidrefawr Isaac.

Naboe Noir H, known as Zippy, claimed a confident novice double, winning both classes outright with scores in the mid-70% zone.
