The Beauty After the Storm
Airboating Magazine|November - December 2024
We all know in Florida it is too often a battle of not enough water so can't ride areas or they are closed or too much water and areas and/or boat ramps are closed. Well after two back-to-back hurricanes (Helene and Milton), there is certainly no shortage of water.

The Beauty After the Storm

The last four years I have done flood rescue stories in our November/December issue. And I am certainly am not trying to minimize the horrific destruction and heroic efforts of so many. However, I tried to gather photos and it was too much for me.

It is just so sad in so many places.

So instead, I am going to do a more upbeat article on airboating in some beautiful places in Florida. We shall move on and recover. No matter what, enjoy life each day. No one knows what tomorrow will bring. Slide On!

Flying Eagle Ride By Cliff Harrelson

I had a much needed and long overdue day in the swamp.

Went out with friends Matt Spicer and Bruce Haney. Been a month of storms, cleaning up and a death in the family.

We rode Flying Eagle out to the Withlacoochee River then back into the Eagle. There were some boat ramps closed, to minimize wakes to homes in the area. But we were able to put in at Eden Park in Inverness.

As expected, there was plenty of water and great riding. I hope I will never see it this high in my life ever again.

We finished up the day at The Cove Resort and Pub in Inverness for lunch.

St. Johns River by Titusville

"Tied up to 7 Palms (or 6 or 5 palms, whatever it is now).

Water was way up but it was a great ride with lots of warm Florida sunshine. 7 Palms is three miles south of SR 50 on the East side of Titusville on the St. Johns River.

Nothing Beats a Good Challenge

Each year I lead guided trips in some of the most pressured gator waters in southern Georgia and use only archery equipment and my airboat to accomplish it. I love all things archery and a good challenge. I have owned airboats all my adult life and travel across the U.S. competing in bowfishing tournaments.
